Joseph S. Wilkes, M.D.

Joseph S. Wilkes, M.D.

Dr. Wilkes is a Georgia native who graduated from the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia. After completing his orthopaedic residency, he continued his training with fellowships in hand surgery in Louisville, Kentucky and sports medicine at The Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia.  Dr. Wilkes is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at Emory University.

Dr. Wilkes has served as a special event physician at local, national, and international sporting events, such as the Atlanta Tennis Challenge, The Chick-fil-A Bowl, and served as Coordinator of Venue Medical Director for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He functions as as an orthopaedic consultant for the U.S. Luge Association and has been an associate team physician for the Atlanta Falcons. He is also the team physician for several Atlanta area schools including Clayton College and State University, Woodward Academy, and Jonesboro High School.

Dr. Wilkes has been in practice in the Atlanta area since 1981 and is currently the Medicial Director and co founder of Southern Orthopaedic Specialists.  His specialties include orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine, hand surgery, arthroscopy, and joint replacement.
