Orthotics
Overview
The Foot Orthotic Program used by our orthopaedic surgeons in Fayetteville, GA is designed to provide a comprehensive assessment and correction of lower extremity misalignment in a customer service-oriented environment. The Performance Orthotics technology focuses on dynamic computerized weight bearing pressure/time mapping, which is the key that our Atlanta orthopaedic doctors use in developing a treatment plan for multiple foot conditions, i.e. plantar fasciitis, unstable MPJ, shin splints, achilles tendonitis, chondromalacia patella, etc. It is a necessary aid in determining if orthotics are a necessary adjunct to our treatment, and is one more way that our orthopaedic specialists in Atlanta can provide unprecedented patient care.
How It Works
The computerized mapping data that our professionals receive can substantiate the abnormality of body weight distribution, which causes painful walking for patients.
Every patient is scanned on our computerized pressure mapping system, which maps dynamic weight-bearing foot function when our patients are both standing still and walking.
Our clinicians analyze the unique way in which each individual distributes his or her body weight while walking and standing, and how this distribution affects the entire body. The procedure is simple, non invasive and clean, not to mention very valuable to the diagnosis and treatment given by our Atlanta orthopaedic specialists.
The Performance System enables our clinician to evaluate the need for and the effectiveness of orthotics with our in-shoe measuring device. The in-shoe sensor capability allows our clinicians to compare foot function with an orthotic and without, to ensure that improved weight distribution throughout the gait cycle has been achieved.
Off-loading high pressure areas in all patients is very important to our orthopaedic doctors in Atlanta, and in regards to the diabetic/arthritic foot it is essential to the prevention of possible future ulcerations. This testing ability paves the way for our orthopaedic surgeons in Atlanta to be able to administer the highest standard of preventative care for both the diabetic and arthritic community.
This is a static weight bearing evaluation of both the left and right foot, demonstrating the individual’s center of gravity while standing still and mapping out pressures along the surface of the foot. This allows our clinician to assess interface pressures between a person and the support surface, replicating that of the ground.
Our clinician can clearly distinguish a cavus foot vs. pes planus foot and identify any high-pressure areas associated with various conditions such as leg length discrepancies, heavy callusing, bunions, etc. A static weight bearing assessment is essential for patients who suffer from low back pain or leg fatigue from standing in one spot for long periods of time (military personnel, plant workers, cashiers, etc.).
