Orthopaedic
Orthopaedics is a medical specialty focusing on the care and treatment of patients sustaining an injury or illness to the musculoskeletal system. This includes bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and nerves. This specialty area of medicine is called orthopaedics or orthopaedic surgery. Orthopaedists treat a vast array of musculoskeletal conditions, as listed below:
- Fractures and dislocations
- Sprains, strains and torn ligaments
- Back pain, scoliosis and ruptured disk
- Arthritic and osteoporosis
Many orthopaedists practice in a setting that allows them to treat general orthopaedics with a specialty interest. Our physicians are all Fellowship Trained in a sub-specialty. They treat patients with general orthopaedic injuries but each focuses on their designated sub-specialty. Southern Orthopaedic Specialists, at all five locations, covers the following sub-specialities of orthopaedic surgery:
- Sports Medicine
- Hand and Upper Extremity
- Spine
- Shoulders
- Foot and Ankle
- Total Joint
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery subscribes to a “Code of Medical Ethics and Professionalism for Orthopaedic Surgeons”. Underscored in this code is service and compassionate care for the patient. Southern Orthopaedic Specialists has developed “service” as our core value in delivering care to our patients.
